Quoting Peiyun, there is a 'big elephant' between my mother and I. I lie a lot. No, I'm not a mendacious person. I swear to myself that no pernicious lie has been made. Maybe it's because of the lack of confidence and trust she has in me; maybe it is because I don't want any arguments; maybe it is because I'm afraid of her disagreement.
I thought of what Mrs Tan told me 'Many times we are hindered by our own assumptions of other people...'
So I decided to ask for permission about attending dance class (probably it is mainly because lying causes too much nervous prostration on me) Mother replied in her email,
"If you think it is your interest and may treat as a form of exercise, also for the good application of some function at school or be ready to apply it at future social life. You please plan your time fruitfully and make sure that you won't let this affect your study."
She agreed.
I'm still pretty sure that she wouldn't, a year ago that is. We are both working to mend this relationship; it takes two hands to clap.
I'm grateful for the change.
